Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of games for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they start the process of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
