Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
